La Terra Nostra and the Bosnian Culture Center in Prijedor

As part of the strategic partnership between the charitable foundation La Terra Nostra and the Bosnian Cultural Center Prijedor (BKC), numerous program activities were carried out in 2024, contributing richly to the cultural scene in Prijedor and its surroundings.

Since its founding in 2019, the Bosnian Cultural Center Prijedor (BKC) has been deeply committed to preserving cultural heritage, fostering artistic creation, and promoting dialogue among various ethnic and religious communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through over 120 program activities to date, BKC has implemented significant projects in music, dance, drama, literature, visual arts, and education—creating a platform for intercultural exchange and unity.

In 2024, BKC Prijedor organized a total of 24 program activities across various fields, including music, dance, drama, and publishing. Here are some key highlights:

1) Music Education:

  • Music Education Project – In cooperation with the “House of Good Tones” from Srebrenica, over 50 children and youth participated in an educational program that included concerts in Sanski Most and Goražde. Under the mentorship of Professor Alma Karabeg, the program offered young people a chance to develop their musical skills and artistic expression.
  • Friendship Concerts – Held in Sanski Most (May 14, 2024) and Goražde (November 19, 2024), these concerts aimed to strengthen connections among youth from different towns. Besides showcasing the talent of young performers, the concerts promoted messages of friendship and cooperation.

2) Music Concerts and Academies:

  • Eid in Banja Luka and Prijedor – In collaboration with the Bosniak Cultural Association “Preporod” and the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina, festive Eid concerts were held in Banja Luka (June 18, 2024) and Prijedor (June 19, 2024), bringing communities together around themes of unity and dialogue.
  • Gala Concert “The Beauty of Krajina from Una and Sana” – To celebrate its fifth anniversary, BKC Prijedor organized a gala concert in December 2024 at the Prijedor Theater. The event gathered BKC members from the region and featured a diverse music and stage program with songs, poetry, and folklore. Awards were presented to distinguished organizations and individuals. A special recognition was awarded to Muhidin Šarić, a notable writer from Kozarac, who was named BKC’s Cultural Ambassador.

3) Publishing:

  • New Releases on the Literary Scene – In 2024, BKC published three new works: “Dictionary of Forgotten Words in the Expressions of the People of Bosnia and Herzegovina” (Muhidin Šarić), “Inversion” (Ensar Bukarić), and a poetry collection “In the Name of Love Is Another Name for God” (Mevlida Đuvić / Amel Suljić). These books enrich local literary output and promote the work of young authors.

4) Drama Performances:

  • Monodramas “The Slap” (Ermina Bošković) and “The Shop of the Future” (Vahid Duraković / Sanel Ugarak) – These plays reflected current social issues and offered powerful dramatic and emotional experiences. More than artistic pieces, these monodramas served as critical reflections on the moral and ethical dilemmas of today’s society.

5) Video Production:

  • Music Videos – BKC Prijedor produced several music videos, including covers of popular songs such as “Tugo nesrećo” (Crvena jabuka) and “Let It Be” (The Beatles). These videos helped promote musical talents from Prijedor, Srebrenica, and Sanski Most, while providing new artistic content for the public.

6) Educational Programs:

  • Workshops and Teacher Training – Educational workshops were held for teachers on oral traditions and Kamishibai (Japanese storytelling), emphasizing BKC’s dedication to preserving cultural heritage. These sessions fostered the exchange of ideas and methods, contributing to the improvement of local education.

Thanks to the strong collaboration between BKC Prijedor and the La Terra Nostra foundation, as well as support from numerous national and international partners, cultural promotion, the arts, and regional dialogue have continued to thrive. These initiatives not only help preserve cultural identity, but also strengthen bonds between diverse communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We appreciate the fact that through these achievements, BKC Prijedor has made significant progress not only in cultural development, but also in reinforcing social values—offering individuals a sense of belonging and identity. These efforts play a vital role in fostering connections among communities and ethnic groups, and building a shared path forward.
